If you are planning to opt for offshore jobs then the North Sea could be one of the options you want to explore. North Sea provides a tough environment for people with strong winds and always a possibility of the weather getting worse. Roustabouts are ascertained to keep the deck entirely clean so that other operations are carried out in precise order. The North Sea can get really dangerous with its hurricane like conditions. But as a roustabout you are require to brave and face all weather conditions. But still even with no formal training for this job you can earn a good salary and opportunity to work for only half the year. Though this job is not easy and requires a lot of physical labor but the added benefits, great salaries and just six months of work draws many to come up and work at the North Sea as roustabouts.

  • Mark, that’s great you’re going to have your survival course under your belt, everything helps.

This is the best time for you to start preparing to apply for a position.
I used this service Here to help me get things rolling.

Because you don’t have any experience it is tougher to get a job but if you are willing to take any position that is available you have a better chance. I worked as a crane operator but started by cleaning toilets. No not glamourous but I was at the right spot at the right time to move into other higher paying positions. So check out Rig Worker, they have a bunch of free information to get you going.

  • Hi Asim

Having prior experience is a tremendous help in this industry. What you need now is to get that experience in front of the people that are hiring. The service I recommend fully can be found HERE. They will be able to get you organised and looking professional so your chances are of getting hired are as optimised as possible.

The company is called Rig Worker and they have helped thousands to get hired. They also have a lot of free stuff that will start you on your way.

Hi I am also trying to get offshore and have applied for a roustabout’s postionbut seem to get the same answer…. not enough experience… I have my BOSIET and UKOOA and also 19 years of experience as a seman in the Royal Navy, I understand that things work different on oil platforms as I have been on aboard a few in the last 3 years as a contractor. I have worked to tight time frames and as a team memeber. If you can point me in the right direction that would be great.

    Thanks Lee

  • Neil Jamieson:

    Hi,

I have completed my BOSIET, MIST and my Medical about a month ago and I am currently have some issues with a job offshore. I have registered and used the Rig Worker site and have got alot of emails in return but they are all stating that you have no experence so we cannot offer you any position at this time.

I have sent over 100 letters to varions companies in Aberdeen, used the Rig Worker site to its full potential and I am now phoning these companies almost every 2 or 3 days.

If someone can help me or give me some advise on what else to do I would be greatful?

    Thanks in advance.

  • i can relate to some of the stuff in this article. Also can you reupload the pics because they seem to be broken!

  • admin:

    Hi Neil
    This is a numbers game.
Keep calling and keep sending out those emails. Once a job is available they will remember you. If they need someone they normally need them fast so if you had just called or just sent them an email – it is more likely that they will call you back first before they start going through the pile of resumes.
This hold for people that don’t have experence as much as those who do.
For all those emails that were returned – send them a return email thanking them and ask them questions like how you can look more appealing to them.
I know this is fustrating but hang in there.
    Cheers
